And the Best Action was Directed by…

This film would have been incomplete without the action set pieces and the explosions that it had. The audiences clearly loved the action and that is why with 1548 public votes, Sunil Rodrigues bags the award of IFTA Most Popular Bollywood Action Director for Shershaah. After watching those fight sequences the audience said “Yeh Dil Maange More.” Shershaah was a wholesome film experience and to translate the magnum-opus life of Captain Vikram Batra on screen, it was crucial to involve such action sequences. Sunil skill-fully steers the action set pieces, making them look appropriate to the tone and theme of the film. The final Kargil war sequence holds a special spot in terms of action.

The second spot is also attained by Sunil Rodrigues for SooryavanshiAkshay Kumar hanging on a moving chopper, cars swinging up in the air and the chase sequences might be conceptualised by Rohit Shetty, but these sequences are executed by Sunil Rodrigues. It is he, who stages everything right from positioning the actors to the ultimate explosive action scene.

At the third spot, Rinku Bachan makes his presence felt by directing the action set pieces in State Of Siege-Temple Attack. This film has some of the best action set pieces and the brilliance of Rinku can be felt in every punch or chase race that the actors performed in the film.

Some Honourable Mentions

Parvez Shaikh ranks fourth for Bell Bottom. This film doesn’t have a lot of action involved but in minimal action scenes, Parvez performed his magic. He brought the rawness and the essence of reality to the action choreography.

Nishant Khan for SherniAnbariv for Radhe, and Dan Styles for The Power are amongst other names whose work got noticed.
