Thankfully, we now live in a time where females are no longer objectified in films with a very limited screen presence including three dialogues, and some dance numbers. Today the cinema is understanding and writing concrete roles for Female Actors too.
Team IFTA believes that there is no better judge than the audience. So IFTA gave the voting rights to the ultimate consumers of the content – the viewers. There is no jury or panel involved in making the decision for the winner.
IFTA has a dedicated market research team that works diligently to find the potential list of nominees who then compete to win the particular category. Spread across various categories, the IFTA market research team makes nomination lists based on primary & secondary market research and analysis. These lists are then made public for the audience to vote. The Nominee getting the highest number of votes wins that particular award category.

2021-22 was the year of celebrating some of the amazing women on-screen performances. Be it, Alia Bhatt, in Gangubai Kathiawadi or Vidya Balan in Sherni, actresses are leaving no stone unturned to impress the audience.
To find out which one of these amazing performances is most liked by the viewers, IFTA has curated the award category for The Most Popular Bollywood Lead Actress. The award will be presented to that one actress who stole the show with her gripping performance.
And the Most Popular Bollywood Actress is….
She has had quite a journey, one can’t forget her early appearances in films where the roles written for her were not meatier enough. After several years of hard work, this actress finally got her due in the form of Mimi. The Most Popular Bollywood Lead Actress 2021-22 goes to Kriti Sanon, who topped the chart with 3174 public votes. The realism that she lent to the character of a surrogate mother in Mimi, surely resonated with the viewers.
Mrunal Thakur attains the second position for her performance in Toofan with 1001 public votes. Toofan largely centred around Farhan Akhtar, but Mrunal surely found her way out to impress the viewers as Dr Ananya Prabhu in the film.
The endearing Sara Ali Khan gets the third spot for her portrayal of Rinku in Atrangi Re. Instagram got flooded with the reels of “Chaka Chak” hook step, which also seems to have worked for Sara Ali Khan.
