In India, every household holds a special place for a television, which is one such medium that binds the family together. The content that runs on these black screens is what keeps us glued. We all know that Indian soap operas run for several years, in which a bond is formulated not just with the actors but also with the ones supporting these protagonists.
Remember Bhabhi – Maa and Dada Ji from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. These supporting actors hold equal positions in the hearts of the viewers. IFTA understands the efforts that go into these performances and thus it took the initiative to introduce the award category, Most Popular Television Supporting Actress.
A journey that started in 2009 still continues. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is one of the longest-running soap operas. What makes the show special are the performances both by the leads and the supporting cast. And one such supporting actress stole the show with her breathtakingly amazing portrayal of Suhasini Goenka. The actress credited for this part is Swati Chitnis, who has topped the chart with 3388 public votes.
The second position is acquired by the supporting actress from another supremely popular television show that has brought a sea-change in the typical daily-soap storytelling. From a pathbreaking show, Anupamaa, a stupendous performer Nidhi Shah has scored 2249 votes to rank second on the list for playing Kinjal Shah.
Sudha Chandran has scored the 3rd position for her performance in Nagin 6, followed by Munmun Dutta from Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Supriya Shukla from Kundali Bhagya.
In totality, Anupama has got three positions on the chart; the other two performers besides Nidhi are Madalsa Sharma and Alpana Buch.
Team IFTA congratulates the winners and appreciates the audience for supporting them and taking the time to vote.
IFTA hopes to see you again next year with the latest nominations and new results. Do let us know if there are any suggestions and share your feedback with us.
